Robert Julian McCamy

Robert Julian McCamy, 77, of Atlanta, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1931, in Dalton to Mary Stuart and Robert Gardner McCamy.

He graduated from the McCallie School in Chattanooga and Vanderbilt University in Nashville. After graduation, he served for two years in Germany where he attained the rank of first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Upon his return, he married Eleanor Ann Shaw, with whom he recently celebrated 52 wonderful years of marriage. They made Atlanta their home in 1957. There he established McCamy Properties, began a successful 50-year career in real estate and became a respected member of Atlanta’s business community.

As former president of Wade Hampton Golf Club, and longtime member of Peachtree Golf Club and Piedmont Driving Club, he was held in warm regard by a wide network of friends and colleagues. He was grateful for every aspect of his full and joyful life.

He will be greatly missed by those who survive him, including his wife Eleanor; his four children, Bob McCamy, Mary Stuart Irion, Clare McCamy and Dede Houk; 15 adoring grandchildren; his brother Leighton and a close and devoted extended family.

A memorial service is Sunday at 3 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive. A reception will be at Peachtree Golf Club, 4600 Peachtree Road (enter on Ashford-Dunwoody Road).

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to send donations to the charity of their choice.
