Mary Monkus



Mary Monkus, 86, of Dawsonville died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a short illness.

Born July 26, 1923, in Whitfield County to the late Tom and Lillie Parker, she had lived in Dawson County for the past 33 years.

Mrs. Monkus retired from United Community Bank after more than 20 years of service, was a member of the Dawson Community Chorale, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville where she sang in the choir.

Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Ted Monkus, Dawsonville; children, Cindy and Keith Swinford, Cohutta, Barbara and Jerry Dotson, Ellijay, Billy and Joyce Monkus, Dawsonville, Roy Monkus, Dawsonville, Michael Monkus, Ellijay, Deborah and Allen Foster, Ellijay, Fredia and Ronnie Casper, Blue Ridge, Carol and Billy Crumbley, Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Charles Schievelhud, Dalton; special friend, Regina Waters, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.

Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate.

Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton, Georgia at 2:30 p.m.

The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
