Ray Crider

Ray Crider, 82, of Cohutta, passed away Friday, July 3, 2009, at Memorial Health Care Center in Chattanooga.

He was born in Murray County on July 27, 1926, to his parents, the Rev. Winfrey and Amy Crider. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, C.W. Crider; sister, Rubena Pritchett and an infant twin brother.

Mr. Crider was a sergeant in World War II and was retired from Cook and Ingle Concrete Products. He was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church in Dalton.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margie Shields Crider of the residence; two daughters and son-in-law, Connie Smith of Dalton and Angela and Paul Hampton of Cohutta; three grandchildren, Brooke Smith of Dalton, Dustin Hampton and his wife Alisa of Tunnel Hill, Corey Hampton and his wife Holly of Cohutta; two great-grandsons, Ethan Hampton and Aiden Tucker Smith; two sisters, Chessie Lee Dalton and husband Leon of Crandall and Mary Lou Stinson of Dalton; nieces and nephews.

The funeral is Monday at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Key, the Rev. Clay Sutton and the Rev. Donald Cantrell officiating.

Burial will be in Concord Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Smith, Jimmy Ray Blevins, George Spence, Jamie Baker, Paul Rayfield and Drew Sutton. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4 until 8 p.m.
