Mr. Roy “Leon” Stanley

Mr. Roy “Leon” Stanley, age 69, of Dalton, Ga., went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the local hospital. Leon was born August 1, 1939 in Whitfield County, Ga., a son of the late Charlie Martin and Mildred Walston Stanley.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Casey, brothers, J.D. and Ralph Stanley. He is survived his wife of 50 years, Betty Jean Newton Stanley of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pamela Stanley; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Alvin Morrison; brothers, John Frank Stanley, Clinton Stanley, Bryan Stanley all of Chatsworth, Ga., Edgar Stanley Dalton; sister Grace Wood of Dalton; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Roy “Leon” Stanley will be held Sunday, July 5, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Thomason and the Rev. Jeff Ferrett officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Gary Stanley, Martin Stanley, Paul Wayne Stanley, Edward Wood, Mitchell Stanley, and Chris Stanley serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thoughts and memories may be shared with the Stanley family at www.pondersfuneralhome.com.
