Dorothy M. ‘Dot’ Rogers

Dorothy M. ‘Dot’ Rogers

Ms. Dorothy M. “Dot” Rogers, or better known as “Granny Dorothy” to her grandchildren, 65, of Dalton, quietly entered eternity Thursday morning, July 24, 2008, at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Dot suffered a massive stroke Friday evening, July 18, 2008, at her home while she was watching her favorite Fox News Channel. Dot was born on Easter Sunday, April 25, 1943, in Murray County, a daughter of the late Prince and Ada Emberson Beam. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Raymond, and Marvin Beam; brother-in-law, Larthen “Duke” Bramblett; aunt, Clara Holloway; cousin, Malcolm Holloway; and an infant grandson, Daniel Willis.

Dot was known to have a wandering spirit. She loved traveling, especially to California, Las Vegas and Mexico. She could talk politics with anyone, and often was accused of being a closeted Republican. Dot enjoyed talking on the phone and was a huge fan of Fox News and “The Nancy Grace Show.” She was very instrumental in helping her son Stoney, and their family during the establishment and beginning of Ponders Funeral Homes. She would help in any way, and always enjoyed answering the funeral home phones. During the past few years of her life she loved tending and caring for her two youngest grandchildren, who she called “Zander” and “Bubbles.” Mama, we know your spirit is now at peace, We Love You.

Dot is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Jimmy Tolliver of Chatsworth, Tonja and Glenn Tate, Tammie and Ralph Willis; son, Stoney Ponders all of Dalton; grandchildren, Shawn and Deanna Gibson, Jason and Jennifer Gibson, Jared, Valeria, and Katie Beth “Bubbles” Tate, Andrew Bonds, Alexander Job “Zander” Willis; great-grandchildren, Creslyn, Ethan, and Max Gibson, Dustin and Morgan Gibson; brothers, Claude Beam and Charlie “Bud” Beam both of Chatsworth; sisters, Wilma Bramblett of Resaca, Irene and Buddy Gibson, Pauline and Steve Witherow all of Chatsworth; sister-in-law, Ruby Beam of Chatsworth; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Dorothy “Dot” Rogers are Sunday at 4 p.m. from the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Brother Robert Chambers officiating.
