Clifford ‘Bill’ Evans Jr.

DALTON —

Clifford “Bill” Evans Jr., 79 of Maryville passed away suddenly on Friday, March 12, 2010.

He was a graduate of Maryville College and Union College. He retired after teaching for 30 years, the last 20 at Eagleton Junior High School. He was active in the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He also coached girls in fast pitch softball for 30 years and was inducted into the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame. He was in the Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford M. Evans Sr. and Winnie Evans; two stepfathers, Oliver Shaw and Roscoe Townsend.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie Evans; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Tim Poole; grandchildren, Daniel, Katie and fiancé Mark Mason; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Dale and Wanda Malone and Fred and Jane Atchley; cousins, Larry and Linda Thompson of Dalton, Teresa and Richard Cook of Cartersville and several nieces and nephews.

The family and friends will meet today at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for a graveside service. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. today at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald Longmire and the Rev. Wendell Trotter officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to: First Cumberland Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. 1301 E. Broadway Ave., Maryville TN 37801.
