Charles ‘Seth’ Sharp

U.S.M.C. Lance Cpl. Charles “Seth” Sharp, 20, of 15 Westover Ridge, Adairsville, was killed in action Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Afghanistan fighting for his country during Operation Strike of the Sword, the latest push by the United States Marine Corps taking on the Taliban.

He was born in Whitfield County Nov. 15, 1988, son of Ric and Tiffany Sharp and Angela and Gus Preston. Sharp had attended Adairsville High School until the age of 17 when he joined the United States Marines. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Eric “Ric” and Tiffany Sharp of Adairsville; mother and stepfather, Angela and Gus Preston of Alligator Point, Fla.; childhood sweetheart and special love of his life, his fiancée, Katie McMahan of Dalton; grandparents, Neal and Aileen Sharp of Dalton, A.L. and Carolyn Rogers of Adairsville, David Story of Dalton, and Beverley Nuthkin of California; sisters and brothers, Kaitlyn and Taylor Greene, Alexander Preston, and Jessica Thumma; aunts and uncles, Mike and Rita Keehley, Rusty and Sheila Sharp, Shane and Donna Rogers, Martin and Sabrina Horner, Barbara Ann Story, Shane Story; special cousins, Brooks and Cameron Keehley, Kenly and Dylan Rogers, Bre and Brooke Horner; special friend, Rick Thumma.

On Thursday, July 9, the body will arrive at Tom B. David Airport in Calhoun, at 3 p.m.

Friday evening, July 10, the family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. at NorthPointe Church, 30 Orchard Road in Adairsville.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at NorthPointe Church, Adairsville, with the Rev. Steve Morrow, the Rev. Randy Gulledge, the Rev. Doug Hasty, and the Rev. Clinton Graham officiating.

Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery with full military honors. Members of the U. S. Marine Corps will serve as pallbearers.

R. Dudley Barton and Sons Funeral Home of Adairsville is in charge of arrangements.
