Billy Gene Parris

Mr. Billy Gene Parris, 78, of Dalton, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1934, in Jacksonville, Ala., a son of the late Raymond and Thelma Turner Parris. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Gene Parris; brothers, Joe, Cecil and Jimmy Parris; sisters, Nellie Copeland, Inez Parris and Vivian Ballew.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lillian Parris of the residence; son, Terry Phillips of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Larry Morehead of Texas, Alice and Jerry McDowell, Frances and Matt Roddenberry of Cleveland, Tenn., Janice and Steve Broyles of Naples, Fla., Christine and Matt Larsen of Chatsworth; brothers and sister-in-law, Darrell Parris, Jerry and Wanda Parris; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Allen Wilkes, all of Jacksonville, Ala., Joyce Newman of Tallapoosa, Ala., Rita Gail and Carlos Reina of Weaver, Ala., Wylene Parris of Birmingham, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, Chris and Leigh Anne Moorehead, Hollie and Jesse Hernandez, Georgianna Smith, Angela Jackson, Jennifer and Chuck Haggart, Bryan Parris, George and Tori Jackson, Amanda and Eric Hyatt, Tyler Evans, Becky Phillips, Cody, Justin and Dustin Jenkins and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Billy Gene Parris will be Friday at 10 a.m. from Ponders Melrose Chapel with the Rev. George Ross officiating.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today. Visitation will also be Saturday at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Ala., with services at noon.

Interment will be in the Monger Cemetery in Jacksonville, Ala.
