Ira L. Guinn


— Mr. Ira L. Guinn, 87, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 2010, at the home of his son Ira Edwin Guinn in Cleveland, Tenn.  

Mr. Guinn was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Cleveland, Tenn., the last surviving child of the late William Dee Witt and Lena Phillips Guinn.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Marie Ratcliff Guinn, a grandson, Anthony Guinn and a great-grandson, Mattox Breckenridge Mayes.

Mr. Guinn is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Dave Stewart of Carlton, Gail and Lee Fletcher of Greenville, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Patricia Guinn of Chatsworth, Ira Edwin and Brenda Guinn of Cleveland, Tenn., Wayne and Velinda Guinn of Tunnel Hill; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Ira L. Guinn will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Deep Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dale Kidd and the Rev. Joe Spann officiating.  

He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the Dawnville United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Terry Guinn, Kim Stanfield, Brian Guinn, Chuck Guinn, Lori Long and Caleb Fletcher will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
