Patrick Henry Scanlan

Patrick H. Scanlan, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, in his home. He was 85.

He was born in Chattanooga, the son of William Emmett Scanlan and Mary Gertrude Cullen Scanlan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard C. Scanlan and stepson, Timothy Wade Henry.

Mr. Scanlan attended Notre Dame and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served during World War II on the USS Bennion DD 662 in the occupation of Japan. He is the last of five brothers who served in the Navy concurrently. After his tour he came home to Chattanooga and worked at Bell South for 35 years. Mr. Scanlan enjoyed golf, billiards, and sharing stories with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Childress Scanlan; stepson, Bill Henry; daughters, Nancy Scanlan Williams, Mary Scanlan Avans and Patricia Scanlan Holder; grandchildren, Mandy, Tiffany, Kathleen, Tommy, Olivia, Henry, Molly, Greg, Brandon and Shawn; great-grandsons, Cullen and Carson.

The Rev. Reece Fauscett will conduct the graveside service Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
