Marvin Lynn


The Rev. Marvin Lynn, 91, of Rocky Face, departed this life Saturday evening, Nov. 28, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Marvin was born June 27, 1918, in Grant County, Kentucky, a son of the late George and Addie Isaac Lynn. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Wright Lynn; brothers, Wilbur Lynn, John Lynn, Clyde Lynn, Bradford Lynn and Jerry Lynn; sister, Mildred Blackshear; stepdaughter, Betty Dill.

The Rev. Lynn proudly served his country in WWII in the U.S. Air Force. The Rev. Lynn was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ellena Phillips Lynn; sons, Ronald Lynn, Fairfield Ohio, Rick Lynn, Absecon N.J.; a stepson and his wife, Jimmy and Susie Phillips, Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathi and Eddie Hassler of Fairfield, Ohio, Pat and Dale Reed of Oxford, Ohio, a stepdaughter and her husband, Helen and David Dailey of Chatsworth; sister, Nancy Fogle of Fairfield, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren, and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of the Rev. Lynn will be Wednesday at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. He will be laid to rest at Murray Memorial Gardens. Military graveside rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 112.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Lynn’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank Roxanne Pegg, RN and Amedesys Hospice for their tender and loving care, and also a special thanks to the Rev. Lynn’s neighbor Hal Goble for being there for the family in their time of need.
