J.B. Chance

Mr. J.B. Chance, 86, of Dalton, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

He was the son of the late Glenn and Mary Bell Chance and was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Geneva Chance, on July 6, 2012; sisters, Edna Deverell and Pauline Goines; and a brother, Leonard Chance.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who was lovingly called ‘papaw’ by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

J.B. was a faithful member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church since 1960 and served as a deacon for many years.

He is survived by his children and spouses, Sue and Vernon Floyd, Mike and Pam Chance, and Brenda and David Creekmore, all of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Becky Chance; sisters, Glennie Flood and Ethel Gibson, all of Dalton; grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Gina Tarvin of Kentucky, Angie and Travis Fields of Dalton, and Hunter Chance of Dalton; great-grandchildren, Christin and John Henery of Kentucky, Emily and Joshua Hicks of Covington, Brent Jones of Ellijay and Caroline Fields of Dalton; great-great-grandchildren, Ireland Henery of Kentucky and Holley Hicks of Covington; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. from Welcome Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Tarvin, the Rev. Randy Vaughn and the Rev. Scott Winters officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
