Selvia Mae Swilling

Mrs. Selvia Mae Swilling, 83, of Dalton, departed this life Tuesday morning, July 31, 2012, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Selvia was born Sept.r 5, 1928 in Oakman, a daughter of the late McKinley Columbus and Alice Cleo Chastain Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Roy Swilling, on April 21, 2010; her brothers, James Parker and Felton Parker and a sister, Aslee Mathis.

Selvia was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a member of the CrossPointe Christian Centre.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and David Sanders, Martha and Dewayne Martin, Shirley and Richard Holland; sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Jackie Swilling, Terry and Sonya Swilling; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Diane Parker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Paul Porter, Vernice Eaton, Versell and Wilburn Rice Jr., Ruby and Quinn Smith, Wanda and Steve Champion, Estelle Ponders; sister-in-law, Brenda Parker Weeks; brother-in-law, Kenneth Mathis; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Selvia Mae Swilling will be Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Todd Pangle, the Rev. Bruce Edwards and Steve Champion officiating.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Mineral Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with Tyler Martin, Jonathan Holland, Chad Martin, Matthew Sanders, Shane Ledford, Ronnie Ponders and Preston Pangle serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
