Elizabeth Ann McBee Baker

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann McBee Baker, of Calhoun, departed this life peacefully Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5, 2012, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

Elizabeth was born April 1, 1935, in Gordon County, a daughter of the late M.C. “Shug” and Pauline Wilbanks McBee. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Charles McKinley Baker on Feb. 9, 2006; and her brothers, Jessie Louis McBee and Max McBee.

Elizabeth was retired from the Cherokee Nursing Home after 27 years where she was the assistant administrator, and for many years, she and Charles owned the Elks Club Restaurant where she was famous for her homemade onion rings. She was of the Baptist faith and attended the Bethesda Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and James Stokes, Tammy and Brock Henderson, all of Calhoun, and Beth and Nathan Bennett of Dalton; grandchildren, Jimmy and Lori Stokes, Jason and Allison Stokes, Amy Stokes, Chrissy and Corey Colleps, Cody and Beth Henderson, and Brody Henderson; great-grandchildren, Jase Stokes, Autumn Stokes, Laney Stokes, Kelsey Clifton, Kathryn Stokes, Kynlee Stokes, Baker Lanier, Bryor Colleps and Mori Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a “special thank you” to the Country Side Hospice, Penny Holcomb, Rhonda Banks and Stephanie Blackstock for their help during the past several weeks of Elizabeth’s life.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Elizabeth Ann McBee Baker will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Hunt officiating. Music will be arranged by Delilah Baxter. Jerry Quinn, Flipper McDaniel, Tim Rowe, C.J. Dodd, Phillip Lanier and Alan Holcomb will serve as pallbearers. Tom Owens, James Lanier, Russell McBee, Jack Dyer, Bobby Dodd, Ken McBee, Len McBee and Tony McBee will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Calhoun Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
