David Wilfred Winkler

David Wilfred Winkler passed away on Sept. 3, 2012, at his home.

A Brooklyn, N.Y., native, he was born May 20, 1925, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Junior Grade.

Following his service, he moved to Dalton in 1946 where he was vice president of manufacturing at Belcraft Chenilles and Textiles and later Noxon Carpets. In 1968, he became a stockbroker for J.C. Bradford, then Hillyard-Lyons until he moved to Baton Rouge in 2007, when he joined Morgan Stanley until he retired in August 2012.

He served the community of Dalton on numerous boards for the Community Chest (United Way), Hardwick Bank and Trust, as a Westcott Fellow of Hamilton Medical Center, Temple Beth-El and he also served as a city councilman.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Sarah Winkler; his brother-in-laws, Chester Bonder, Al Goldstein, Monty Weil, Dr. Jack Tepper, Dr. Bernard Tepper and Louis Tepper; and sister-in-law, Sara Zitcer.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Margaret Tepper Winkler; son, Steven; and his wife, Monica Nijoka; three grandchildren, Megan, Sara and Alyssa; sisters, Regina Goldstein and Muriel Bonder; sister-in-laws, Martell Weil and Bea Tepper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thanks to doctors Harold Brandt, Gerald Miletello and Vince Cataldo for the excellent care they provided during this difficult time.

Graveside services were held at Liberal Cemetery at noon on Tuesday.
