Earnest Winston Hughes



Earnest Winston Hughes, 69, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Winston was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Dalton, a son of the late Carl C. and Minnie Marie Raburn Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Carlston Hughes.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Cindy and Arthur Beavers, John Hughes Jr. and Amy Hughes, Yvonne Hughes of Rome, April Hughes of Virginia; special great-niece, Ashley and Jamie Fisher of Dalton; great nieces and nephews, Amy and Ron Steele of Tennessee, Jessica McClullogh, Kayleigh Martin of Chatsworth, Jarrett Hughes of Indianapolis, Ind.; great-great-nephews, Matthew and Harley Hales; several other great-great-nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Earnest Winston Hughes will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Pastor Edward Hughes and Pastor Lonnie Starnes officiating. He will be laid to rest at Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be John Hughes Jr., James Fisher, Dale Williams, Josh Hales, Charles Hughes and Paul Beavers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday until the service hour.
