Olin ‘Olie’ Lamar Brotherton III

DALTON —

Olin “Olie” Lamar Brotherton III, of Tampa, Fla., and formerly of Chattanooga passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

Olie was born Dec.15, 1959, in Chattanooga. He attended the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Darlington School, and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Olie excelled in sports from a very young age and went beyond being an avid “sports enthusiast” and was the ultimate Big Orange Go Vols fan. He loved the “ March Madness” playoffs. Prior to his illness, he had been in carpet sales for many years in Tampa. Olie’s contagious laugh and that big wonderful smile will be deeply missed.

Olie was preceded in death by his father, O.L. Brotherton Jr. on July 11, 1984, and grandparents, Mildred and O.L. Brotherton Sr. and Gladys and Estil Mullins.

Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend of 18 years Linda B. Brotherton of Tampa; mother Phyllis (Jerry) Lingerfelt of Lecanto, Fla.; sister Betsy (Hugh) Smalley, Nashville; nieces, Katie and Mary-Claire Smalley, Nashville; aunts, Nancy (Ed) Hunt of Memphis, Karen (Dan) Saieed of Chattanooga, Joy Mullins of West, Miss.; half-brother, Matthew T. Brotherton of Lexington, Ky.; and several cousins. Local survivors include stepmother, Pat Ford-Brotherton of Rome; step-uncle Stan (Jan) Ford; step-nieces, Meredith Ford, Meaghan Ford-Gordon and step-nephew Jamieson Ford of the Washington, D.C., area.

A private memorial service will be at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa, 2002 N. Florida Ave., Tampa FL 33602 or visit the Eeb site metromin.org.
