Berry College Brass Ensemble to perform at area churches

ROME — The Berry College Brass Ensemble, directed by Dr. Stan Pethel, will perform at three area churches this November. The annual “Pizza Tour,” as it has come to be known, has provided the opportunity for Berry’s student musicians to share their talents with congregations throughout Northwest Georgia over the past 15 years.

The 2009 dates are as follows:

· Sunday, Nov. 1 – First Baptist Church of Calhoun, 7 p.m.

· Sunday, Nov. 8 – Riverside Baptist Church in Rome, 6 p.m.

· Sunday, Nov. 15 – Garden Lakes Baptist Church in Rome, 6 p.m.

This year’s program will include “How Brightly Beams the Morning Star,” by J.S. Bach, “Fanfare and Ballad,” by Carrol M. Butts, and “Salvation is Created,” by the Russian composer Pavel Tschesnokoff, arranged by Bill Holcombe. Also featured will be several special arrangements by Dr. Pethel, a longtime Berry faculty member and chair of the college’s fine arts departments. These include “How Firm a Foundation,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “The Solid Rock,” “Brethren, We Have Met to Worship” and “Glory Bound,” a medley of gospel tunes.

All concerts are free and open to the public.
