The festival will also feature arts and crafts and children activities. All proceeds from the Roman Roast on the River event will go to the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame scholarship fund. Committee members and volunteers are needed for this fundraising event and are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, January 6 in the Carnegie Conference Room inside the Carnegie Building located at 607 Broad Street. The Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame scholarship fund is being expanded this year to offer scholarships to participants of all ages. The scholarship fund has traditionally only funded college bound high-school seniors in Rome and Floyd County for outstanding academic, athletic and community achievements. This year, the program is being expanded to provide scholarships to children in need for all RFPRA activities including Challenger Sports, youth athletics and youth programs. The Hall of Fame recognizes the benefits youth sports provides in building mental and social development skills as well providing essential physical exercise and healthy habits. By expanding the program, the Hall of Fame will provide opportunities for all children to experience the benefits of team sports.
The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority contributes to quality of life and the economic development of the community. The Authority’s mission is to enrich the life of the total community fulfilled through a broad portfolio of year-round recreational programs, services and facilities for all ages. RFPRA programs and services include youth and adults athletics, child care programs, senior programs, and parks and community center management.
