ATLANTA — The 48th annual Atlanta Boat Show cruises into the Georgia World Congress Center January 13-17, 2010, where novice and experienced boaters can gather under one roof to find everything needed for outdoor fun. With special deals on everything from canoes and cruisers to engines and electronics, plus new attractions including the Distortion Boarding-Extreme Rail Jam, the Tupolev 007 Russian rescue boat, the Green Boating Zone, appearances by a SpongeBob Squarepants’ favorite and more, the 2010 Atlanta Boat Show is the ideal place to compare, save, and have fun preparing for boating season.
The five-day event has grown into Georgia’s largest boat show, attracting thousands from the southeastern seaboard, filling 300,000 square feet with hundreds of the latest boats from the region’s top dealers, plus a wide selection of marine accessories and features.
“There is no other boating event in the southeast that gives visitors the opportunity to shop the best and biggest selection of boats and accessories at unprecedented prices. With thousands of products to choose from, the Atlanta Boat Show offers something for every person, activity and budget,” noted Larry Berryman, show manager. “And with the new Rail Jam feature and plenty of fun for the entire family throughout the show, everyone is sure to be inspired to discover why life is truly better on the water.”
Special features to the 2010 show include:
Affordability Pavilion – Back by popular demand in its second year, this area will showcase boats for those with smaller budgets, highlighting pricing options and displaying boats that visitors can finance for $250 or less.
NEW! Distortion Boarding – Extreme Rail Jam – Boating and outdoor enthusiasts looking for adventure can get their fix at the Atlanta Boat Show’s first-ever Distortion Boarding-Extreme Rail Jam event. Watch some of the nation’s top wakeboarders unload a variety of extreme boarding tricks and stunts over a 30,000 gallon landing pool. Powered by the “Winch Grinch,” a portable towing device that pulls riders at speeds of up to 25 mph, the pros from Distortion Boarding, Malibu, Mastercraft and Ski Nautique will perform and host daily riding expositions.
Rail Jam demo times: January 13-14, 3pm and 6 pm; January 15-16, 1pm, 3pm and 6 pm; and January 17 at Noon, 2pm and 4pm.
Green Boating Zone – Want to be greener? Visit the Green Boating Zone to learn eco-friendly boating tips while checking out the newest green technologies, accessories and boats on the market, including the Atlanta debut of three electric hybrid boats.
Let’s Go Fishing Center – Watch local pros demonstrate casting and fishing techniques in a series of top-notch fishing seminars taking place daily throughout the show; enjoy a rare underwater view and watch fish react to and strike different types of lures and bait in a 5,000 gallon aquarium stocked with local species; and introduce your kids to fishing at the catch-and-release pond, where young anglers can fish for live trout.
NEW! Meet SpongeBob’s Best Friend, Patrick the Starfish – Kids can meet and take photos with their favorite starfish, Patrick, from the hit show SpongeBob Squarepants. While not the brightest sea star in the ocean, Patrick is always offering his advice and encouragement to his best pal SpongeBob as they embark on adventures under the sea. Patrick will be stopping by the show Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 16-17) from 11:00a.m.-3:00p.m.
Miss GEICO – Miss GEICO is back! The world’s fastest offshore racing boat, powered with the same turbine engines that flew missions in the first Gulf War and can reach speeds of more than 185 miles per hour, will dazzle any boating enthusiast with a need for speed.
NEW! Pre-Show Shopping – The Atlanta Boat Show’s newest online offering allows attendees to pre-shop the 2010 show for the greatest deals on the newest boats by visiting AtlantaBoatShow.com (begins Dec. 1, 2009). Show goers can plan ahead and search boats by brand, model and more, in addition to scheduling dealer appointments onsite or at the dealership.
NEW! Tupolev 007, Russian Rescue Boat – During the arms buildup, the former Soviet Republic developed some pretty bizarre weapons, vehicles and boats that were never mass produced. This rescue boat was one of them. The Tupolev 007 is a can’t miss! Reaching speeds of over 150 miles per hour, this rescue boat is powered by an MP14 aircraft fighter engine and is one of the only three originally produced and the only one still in existence. Its estimated value is $2 million.
