Free construction class offered

A free workshop on starting your own construction business will be held on Jan. 29 at the Small Business Association Georgia District Office in the downtown Peachtree Center office complex.

Pre-registration is required for the workshop which will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the district office, 233 Peachtree St., Atlanta 30303, Suite 1900 in Harris Tower.

The workshop will feature individuals who have expertise in the construction industry. General information will be provided on the following topics:

• Business start-ups

• Bonding requirements

• Business insurance

• SBA 504 loan program

• Business formations, choosing the right business structure

• Payroll taxes, foe example , FICA, federal & state income taxes, workers compensation, unemployment insurance and Medicare

Speakers will include:

• W. Frank Ward, attorney at law

• Sam Newberry, surety agent at Surety Group Inc.

• Rafael Villegas, Executive Director of HCAG

• Tim Souther, vice president-business development at Georgia Certified Development Co.

• Amy Nelson, senior sales consultant of Paychex, Inc.
