Georgia Tech’s class of 14 includes RB Custis

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech didn’t have room to sign a big class, so coach Paul Johnson says he focused on filling needs with his class of 14 signees.

Johnson said Wednesday he may sign another player or two. The class is highlighted by running back Travis Custis of Lovejoy High School and offensive linemen Shamire DeVine of Atlanta’s Tri-Cities High School and Chris Griffin of Panacea, Fla.

Johnson says he addressed another obvious need by signing kicker Harrison Butker of Atlanta’s Westminster School.

Ty Griffin, who was a dual-threat quarterback at McEachern and North Cobb in the Atlanta area, was signed to run Johnson’s spread-option offense.

The class is not highly rated, but Johnson says many of his all-Atlantic Coast Conference players were not highly rated by recruiting experts.
