Kevin Jones’ campaign approach is simple.
“I’m running on Christian values, common sense and dedication to the job and the community that I love,” he said.
Jones, a self-employed private independent contractor, is running for Murray County magistrate post 2 judge, a part-time position, on July 31 against five others: Jim Beavers, Leroy Green, Eric Hooker, Mike Padgett and John Waters. The position is nonpartisan. There will either be a winner or a runoff.
This is Jones’ first run for elected office. Asked why he decided to run, he said, “I’ve done a lot of volunteer work — the Chief Vann House, 4-H, Keep Chatsworth-Murray Beautiful — and I just want to continue to improve the community that I live in.”
He said he believed the magistrate position “would be a good way for me to start a political career, to get myself established in the county.”
Asked what he would bring to the position, he said, “I’m college-educated, a quick learner, have compassion and the passion to perform the job duties and responsibilities.” He noted he has long had an interest in local and national politics.
Jones said he has a degree in professional photography, commercial and portraiture, from the North Georgia Technical Institute, and graduated from Reinhardt College with an associate’s degree in liberal arts. As an independent contractor, he does painting, light remodeling and floor installations. He said he worked for Clark Smith Photography for 10 years, off and on.
Jones is the son of Ethel Jones and the late Winfred Jones. He said he has lived in Murray County “all my life.”
He said he is a lifelong member of Free Hope Baptist Church in Chatsworth, where he is chairman of The Brotherhood (a gathering of men the first Sunday of each month), drives the church bus route on Wednesdays, and also helps with general maintenance.
“I”d like to thank the opponents for a good clean race, and I would greatly appreciate consideration for your vote,” he said.
