Two children are dead and their mother and two other people were injured in a Friday morning wreck in Murray County involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a GMC Envoy traveling south on Old U.S. 411 failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled into a tractor-trailer heading east on Ga. 136. The wreck occurred around 10 a.m.
Zach Greene, 6, and Mason Greene, 12, both of Summerville, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their mother, Susan Renee Greene, 39, and a relative, Dylan Webb, 13, of Euharlee, were taken to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. The truck driver, Bobby Gene Douglas, 41, of Resaca, was also taken to Hamilton for treatment.
The boys’ father is a Gordon County firefighter, a Gordon County Fire Department spokesman said, according to The Calhoun Times newspaper. Calls to the fire department were not immediately returned.
State patrol spokesperson Franka Young said the children who were killed were sitting in the front passenger seat and the right rear passenger seat.
“The Envoy failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a tractor-trailer in the left side,” said state patrol spokesman Gordy Wright. “This caused the Envoy to rotate and strike the rear of the truck.”
