The Steak ‘n Shake on Walnut Avenue could have an expanded parking lot by April.
Owner Debbie Richman has purchased the property next to the restaurant on Tibbs Road.
“We are in the process of adding 21 additional parking places. We are lucky enough that we are very popular in Dalton, and we feel like our only limitation is the parking,” said Richman. “Our employees don’t have a place to park, and there’s no overflow parking like the in the rest of the restaurants I have. This will be good for the community and good for us.”
Richman said the property on Tibbs Road covers six acres but only four are developable. The additional parking will take up about a half acre.
Richman says she doesn’t have any immediate plans for the rest of the property.
“If I had to say what my ideal scenario would be, it would be the possibility of someone building a hotel, not me building a hotel, but someone else building a hotel on that property,” she said.
Richman said completion of the parking lot will depend on the weather.
“We’ve had a lot of rain that has slowed us down, but I hope that we will be finished maybe April 1,” she said.
