As of Friday afternoon, North Georgia EMC reported that power had been restored to the majority of customers in Gordon County. Wednesday’s tornado blocked many roadways and damaged numerous homes, trees, poles, electrical equipment and power lines. As of 4 p.m. Friday, electricity has been restored to all but 150 members. Crews will continue to work in the more isolated areas until power is restored to all of the customers affected by the storm.
NGEMC hopes to have the majority of power restored by tonight, according the Paul Ruud, NGEMC Vice President of Engineering and Operations. As NGEMC enters the final phases of the power restoration efforts, we’d like our members to know the following information:
As lines are repaired, customers with electricity may experience brief power interruptions while line feeds are switched back to normal. Isolated outages may continue in areas where lines are less accessible or in situations involving homes with structural damage.
If your neighbor has electricity and you don’t, please check your main breaker first and then call NGEMC to report your outage.
Customers may report power outages through the NGEMC Mobile App, the NGEMC Mobile Web App, or by calling their local NGEMC office and using the automated telephone outage reporting system.
Over the last 48 hours, crews worked continuously to set approximately 150 new poles, multiple transformers, and reconstructed numerous spans of single-phase and three-phase power line to restore power to over 4000 customers in Gordon County.
NGEMC crews were assisted by crews from EPB of Chattanooga, Carroll EMC, Coweta Fayette EMC, Diversified Services, Sumter Utilities, WA Kendall, Asplundh, Trees Unlimited, and CN Utility Consultants and we thank them for joining us in our power restoration efforts, said Ruud. Power crews also received strong support from the citizens and agencies of Gordon County. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the community during this time of rebuilding.
NGEMC serves over 98,000 customers in portions of Catoosa, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield counties.
