The Dalton City Council voted 2-0 on Friday to approve a five-year, lease-purchase agreement with Leasing 2 Inc. of Tampa, Fla., for a new 100-foot ladder truck for the fire department. The city will pay $237,720.40 each year.
Council members Dick Lowrey and George Sadosuk were not at the special called meeting, and Mayor David Pennington votes only in the event of a tie.
Fire Chief Bruce Satterfield said the city should take delivery of the truck in May. The truck was built as a demonstrator and will be exhibited at the Fire Department Instructors Conference in Indianapolis in April.
The truck will replace a ladder truck the city bought in 1987.
“That truck has served us well, but it’s becoming difficult to find parts for it. We’ve had to have some parts custom made,” Satterfield said. “The new truck has new technologies and features that should improve safety for firefighters as well as any victims we have to bring down.”
Satterfield said the department plans to keep the old truck as a reserve.
