Rain continues, snow possible Thursday

Those looking for a reprieve from wet conditions will have to wait a few days longer, if forecasts by the National Weather Service are correct.

The Weather Service issued a notice that flood warnings for several areas around the Conasauga River and Coahulla Creek continue as the area experiences still more rainfall.

“While the rain will diminish somewhat on Wednesday, it will increase again on Thursday,” according to a hazardous weather outlook at weather.gov issued Tuesday afternoon. “This could produce additional flooding to parts of North Georgia Thursday. The rain will exit north and central Georgia Thursday night.”

Wintry precipitation is possible on Thursday, according to the notice, but the primary concern there is black ice on the roads.

Since Sunday, the area has received between 3 to 4 inches of rain, and in a few isolated cases 5 inches, according to a flood watch issued just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Total rainfall could reach up to 6 inches before the flood watch is lifted, forecasters said.

Friday and Saturday are forecast to be clear and sunny with highs in the lower 50s.
