Dalton police seek information in scam case

One man is in jail and another is sought on theft charges in what police are calling a bait-and-switch scam over roof gutter cleaning.

James William Taylor was arrested Thursday for theft by deception and is in the Whitfield County jail. He is awaiting extradition to Hamilton County, Tenn., to face similar charges.

Dalton police say another man, representing himself as an employee of Taylor Roofing, is continuing to solicit business by placing telephone calls targeting elderly females offering gutter cleaning services.

The two men, saying they represent Taylor Roofing, have been driving a white Ford F-250 with a ladder rack. The two give a quote and then after completion, elevate the cost of the repairs approximately three times the original amount, police say.

If Taylor or anyone representing himself as an employee of Taylor Roofing has performed any home repairs for you where this type of bait and switch has occurred or attempts to contact you, contact Detective James Goines with the Dalton Police Department at (706) 278-9085, extension 115.
