The Dalton City Council held the first reading Monday of an ordinance that would require businesses that buy gold, silver and jewelry to take part in the city’s pawnshop database. They would be required to photograph the items they buy and put the photos in an online database that local law enforcement agencies can access.
The council also voted 4-0 to:
• Approve a resolution backing the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Downtown Dalton Development Authority in their efforts to bring the Georgia Downtown Association Conference to Dalton. Supporters say the conference would bring about 350 people to the city.
• Approve a package beer license for Nasiruddin Noorruddin at RN Convenience Store.
• Approve compliance procedures for any recovery zone bonds the city may issue.
• Approve agreements with Action Ministries, DOC-UP, the Dalton-Whitfield Community Development Corp., Family Promise, Friendship House, the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center, Whitfield-Dalton Daycare, the Boys and Girls Club and the Family Support Council for $87,191 in federal community development block grant money the city awarded them earlier this year.
