A pregnant Chatsworth woman may have died when a bag of methamphetamines burst inside her body, the Murray County coroner said.
The fetus died on Friday, while the mother died Sunday evening, said Coroner Larry Ballew.
Megan Michelle Long, 19, and her unborn child passed away at Hamilton Medical Center, according to Peeples Funeral Home of Chatsworth. A toxicology report is expected this week from the state crime lab, said Sheriff Howard Ensley.
“Apparently that did happen, but we’re not sure that’s why she died,” said Ballew when questioned about the bag of methamphetamines. “(Her body) has gone for an autopsy so it will be depending on toxicology to see if methamphetamines were the problem or not ... I know that the sheriff’s office had stopped her ... I think was the deal ... she was actually pregnant and they took the fetus and then later on she died.”
Chief Deputy Ray Sitton said the car was pulled over during a traffic stop.
Ensley was asked about Long’s death.
“I can’t affirm or add to it because there is an autopsy being done at this time,” he replied. “I don’t know what she died of — we are doing an investigation of her death. We are talking to witnesses. When we can positively say what happened, we will.”
Sitton said the autopsy results could be back today.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete early Tuesday evening and will be announced by Peeples Funeral Home.
