A Dalton mother of two has landed on a plentiful prize from the Georgia Lottery. Ana Mares, 24, won an $80,000 top prize playing the instant game Orange Doubler Cashword.
Mares claimed her prize recently at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Dalton.
ABC Convenience Store, 1135 Resaca Lafayette Road N.W. in Resaca, sold the lucky ticket.
“We just went into the store after visiting my in-laws,” Mares recalled of she and her husband, Arturo. “My husband got one for each of us.”
She scratched her ticket while at home.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Mares said. “I went over it several times. I couldn’t believe it!”
The Mares have no immediate plans for the winnings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
