Child molestation case continued to October

A former Dalton State College professor charged with child molestation and rape is scheduled for trial Oct. 29.

District Attorney Bert Poston said the court agreed on Friday to schedule the case for Monte Gale Salyer, the Dalton man whom a grand jury previously indicted on six counts of aggravated child molestation, two counts of rape and one count of statutory rape. The alleged offenses occurred over several years and involved three individuals, Poston said.

Salyer was an associate professor of English and English as a second language at the college. He was placed on leave from teaching after the charges were filed and later resigned. He pleaded not guilty on July 20.

Also in court on Friday:

• Andrew Paul Desimone of Holly Grove Drive in Dalton was scheduled for trial Nov. 12. Desimone has pleaded not guilty to charges connected with the December 2011 shooting of Kevin Laray Brafford, then 27, of Cohutta. Police officers said Desimone shot Brafford in the parking deck at Hamilton Medical Center when Brafford asked him if he had a lighter.

• Timothy James Singleton, 19, of Dalton, is scheduled for trial Oct. 29. He pleaded not guilty in January to a rape charge filed by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office in November.
