NGEMC outage restoration progresses

As of noon, Saturday, approximately 2,100 NGEMC customers remain without power after severe wind storms caused damage throughout the service area Thursday evening. At the height of the event, more than 12,000 customers lost electricity due to fallen trees and damaged lines and poles.

NGEMC crews along with visiting utility crews continue working to restore outages in Murray and Whitfield county areas. A few isolated outages are also being worked in the surrounding counties. Cooperative officials anticipate having most power restored by tonight; however, some locations may remain without power until Sunday morning. “We understand that extended power outages are difficult especially in such humidity and heat,” said Jeff Brown, vice president of operations and engineering for NGEMC.

“The outages that remain are scattered and in many cases involve service lines or distribution lines that feed small numbers of homes,” Brown said. “Customers affected by the storm have been very kind and understanding. We appreciate everyone’s patience.” Since the remaining outages are scattered, Brown said that customers without power should continue to contact NGEMC to ensure that the dispatchers are aware of all isolated outages.

To report outages, please email outage@ngemc.com or call our offices to reach our 24-hour dispatch. We will continue to post updates at  www.ngemc.com and on Facebook.
