Each year Samaritan’s Purse organizes Operation Christmas Child to send Christmas gifts to children around the world, and local churches and civic groups pack “shoe boxes” full of gifts for these children.

National Collection Week is today through Monday, Nov. 19, and there are two drop-off (relay center) locations in the Dalton and Chatsworth areas to assist local groups in delivering their completed shoe boxes.

‘It was a brutal time’

Dr. William Blackman opened a box of tools consisting of medical instruments, including a saw, and proceeded to tell visitors how they were used more than a century ago to amputate limbs for soldiers wounded on the battlefield.
