Children love Jandy’s Frozen Yogurt, and so do their parents, the owner says.
“On the weekends, we get a lot of fathers who bring their kids in. They watch the game. We always have at least one television set on sports, and have some frozen yogurt together,” said Dan Carlton, owner of the recently opened Dalton Jandy’s in Walnut Creek Plaza.
Dalton residents may be familiar with Jandy’s from stores in Rome and Calhoun.
“Jan and Andy Morris opened the original store in Rome about four years ago. That’s where the name comes from, their names,” said Carlton. “They really built it up and established the brand. Then they moved into Calhoun. They wanted to continue to expand, but they didn’t want to bite off too much, so they decided to franchise. This is the first franchise.”
Each day, Jandy’s offers 16 different flavors, including sorbets for people who are lactose intolerant and no-sugar added for those who are watching their calories.
Carlton said many of Jandy’s customers are health conscious and appreciate the probiotics that yogurt has and ice cream doesn’t.
“It helps with digestion,” he said.
So many choices can be a bit daunting, so Jandy’s gives customers small containers to sample before they fill up their cup. They can then cover them with their choices from more than 40 different toppings ranging from granola and cookie crumbs to chocolate sauce and marshmallow topping.
Jandy’s rotates the flavors every few days.
“We try to have something different each time someone comes in,” said manager Theresa Gambino. “We also sell yogurt pies.”
The restaurant has Wi-Fi and is decorated in bright polka dots.
“We really want to make it a fun place, a place where you want to come and bring your family,” Carlton said.
So far, Dalton residents have been doing so. Jandy’s is near many of the restaurants on West Walnut Avenue and Gambino says many people come by Jandy’s for dessert after having dinner.
“We always have a big rush on Friday night. We also get people who just get off the interstate looking for a snack and see our sign,” she said.
Carlton says the store is looking to get involved with the community and help with fundraisers and other events.
Jandy’s is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m.
