A man and woman injured by a house fire on Griffin Street in Dalton last week were taken off life support on Tuesday.
Family members said Danny and Joy Hooper, who were taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Centers in Augusta after they suffered from smoke inhalation and burns, had been in critical condition. They are not expected to recover.
The pair had to have breathing assistance after they were rescued when a neighbor called 911, and Danny Hooper had to have CPR after rescue workers found him in cardiac arrest, said Dalton Fire Department Deputy Chief Gary Baggett.
Officials said there was no working smoke detector in the home.
