Whitfield school board names Gilreath superintendent

The Whitfield County Board of Education hired Judy Gilreath as the system's next superintendent today.

She is the system’s current assistant superintendent.

She replaces outgoing Superintendent Danny Hayes, who retires on March 31.

Her $140,000 contract runs through June 30, 2014.

She is a former principal of Pleasant Grove Elementary and was named assistant superintendent for support services in July 2006. Gilreath was chosen by the school board as one of four finalists for the superintendent job in 2010, when the board hired Hayes.
