A 12-year-old boy who was hit by a tractor trailer while riding a bicycle Thursday evening in north Whitfield County remains in critical condition in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga where he was airlifted, according to a hospital spokesman.
The truck driver from Arizona has not been charged by the Georgia State Patrol that is investigating the accident, a dispatcher said. The boy was riding on East Broadacre Drive below North Whitfield Middle School when he continued into Cleveland Highway where he was hit. He was not wearing a helmet.
An official with the GSP declined to give the child’s name.
The incident happened at about 5 p.m. and the boy was airlifted from Hamilton Medical Center to Erlanger, according to Whitfield County 911.
