The Dalton City Council voted 4-0 Monday to:
• Approve a $22,238 change order to work being done at James Brown Park for dirt and landscaping.
• Approve several change orders totaling $44,274 for renovations of the old post office at 100 S. Hamilton St. The post office, which is the former site of the Dalton Public Schools central office, will house The Carpet and Rug Institute and the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce.
• Accept a $1,900 proposal from Southern Pump and Tank Co. for a new fuel system at Dalton Municipal Airport.
• Renew for one year an agreement with GeoComm to maintain the city’s geographic information system for $3,000.
• Renew its agreement with Georgia Emergency Management Agency-Homeland Security to provide mutual aid to other local governments in the event of natural catastrophes and other emergencies.
• Sign off on an agreement for Ollie Mae Whitlow to receive a $18,210 loan from the federal Community Home Investment Program.
The council also reappointed:
• Bruce Davies to a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission.
• John Hutcheson to a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission.
• Joanne Lewis to a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission.
• Carolyn Roan to a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission.
• Austin King to a three-year term on the Dalton-Whitfield Board of Zoning Appeals
• David Cady to a three-year term on the Dalton-Whitfield County Library Board.
• Tangela Johnson to a three-year term on the Dalton-Whitfield County Library Board.
And the council appointed:
• Sherwood Jones to a three-year term on the Historic Preservation Commission.

Two homicides in Dawnville early Thursday morning were a “crime of passion” and the suspect who is still on the loose is “dangerous,” Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said at a press conference Friday afternoon.
