A Dalton woman charged with passing counterfeit bills in Fort Payne, Ala., last week has posted $45,000 bond and been released from jail, officials said.
Christy Ann Greeson, 31, of 650 Richardson Road, bonded out of the Dekalb County Jail on Monday, according to Fort Payne Police Department officials. She and Aubrey Clayton, 43, of 664 Haig Mill Road in Dalton, were charged with three counts each of criminal possession of a forged instrument (first degree). Clayton remained in jail Monday evening. A phone number for Greeson could not be found.
Detective David Davis advises everyone to be careful when accepting larger bills. People receiving more than a couple of such bills are advised to check the serial numbers to make sure they are not duplicates and to look at the hologram face and make sure it matches the face of the front of the bill.
Greeson and Clayton were arrested on Dec. 22 after officers were called to the Fort Payne Walmart on suspicion of a man trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. According to a press release from the police department, an investigation found they had passed counterfeit bills in Scottsboro, Ala., as well.
The Scottsboro Police Department and U.S. Secret Service are also involved in the investigation.
