Recovery teams scouring the Tennessee River say they have found what are believed to be partial human remains of two of the three Dalton men who went missing while fishing last Saturday night.
“The medical examiner thinks they are human,” said Steve Lamb, director of the Marion County (Tenn.) Emergency Management Agency, late Friday afternoon. “We didn’t release that information until we knew all the family members were here.”
Five men were in the boat when it capsized after being pulled into turbulent water below Nickajack Dam that evening. Brothers Hildebrando Hureta-Hernandez, 14, and Norberto Hureta-Hernandez, 26, were rescued by another fisherman about two miles downstream. The three missing men have been identified as Hilavio Soniga, 64, Trancito Garcia, 32, and Angel Ocampo, 49.
Lamb said the medical examiner believed the remains that were found were from two different people.
“We’ve been checking the area under the dam, but we’re concluding operations for the day,” he said. “There are about 40 family members here. I’ve actually got more family members than searchers. But we expect to have more (searchers) looking tomorrow.”
