Community Credit Union sponsoring food drive
In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, HMC Community Federal Credit Union is collecting canned and non-perishable food items for donation to residents of Whitfield Commons and Whitfield Place. If you would like to participate, please bring your items on or before Dec. 18 to the credit union at 1508 N. Thornton Ave. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For additional information call (706) 272-6196.
Whitfield Commons and Whitfield Place are apartment-type homes for seniors and handicapped persons who are on lower fixed incomes.
“This is the second year our credit union members have wanted to collect food items for these residents and it is just a natural thing to think of helping other people during the holidays,” Deborah Wright, credit union president and CEO, said.
“It’s also hard for some people to get out during the winter months and go to the grocery stores, so we like to think we are not only helping during the holidays but also on those cold, rainy and windy days,” Wright said.
Part of the donations will be distributed prior to Thanksgiving and again before Christmas. Items requested by the residents are packs of individual servings of prepared gelatins and puddings (both regular and sugar-free), canned meats, beans, peas, soups and vegetables, canned fruits (regular and sugar-free), peanut butter, jelly, hot and cold cereals, and assorted boxed meals as well as candy, cookies and other snacks.
