The Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center may get a little sprucing up next year.
Trade center board members Friday discussed two capital projects they said are way overdue for the building, which is nearly 20 years old.
The first project will be putting a new wallcovering in the banquet hall.
“That includes window treatments, the wallcovering and some ceiling work as well,” said trade center general manager Shashank Gairola.
Trade center officials say they have already received bids on that project, ranging from $70,000 to $90,000, and it should start next year.
Trade center officials also plan a major renovation and expansion of the kitchen. The kitchen is currently 614 square feet. The expansion would add another 718 square feet. Gairola said the expansion will add more freezer space, more dishwashing capabilities and new broilers and grills.
Trade center officials have talked about expanding the kitchen for several years. They say it was not built to be a full-service kitchen since the original plans for the trade center called for it to have a hotel attached to it.
The estimated cost of that project is $450,000.
Gairola said the trade center will approach the Dalton City Council and the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners for funding for the projects.
