Veterans Day Program in Chattanooga at National Cemetery

The Chattanooga National Cemetery will honor all veterans Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. during the traditional Veterans Day Program. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 942 will sponsor the event as a member of the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council (CAVC) who coordinates the annual event yearly.

The featured speaker will be Noah Long, RADM, U.S. Navy retired.

A music prelude by American Legion Post 95 Legionnaires will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The program includes:

Introduction of host organization by Ronnie Williams, chairman, Chattanooga Area Veterans Council. Call to order by Robert Cothran, president, Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 942. Presentation of Colors by CAVC Honor Guard. Invocation by Dr. Ken Duggan, Pastor, Dallas Bay Baptist Church. National Anthem by Choo Choo Chorus. Pledge of Allegiance by Robert Cothran. Posting of Colors by CAVC Honor Guard. Massing of the Colors by CAVC Member Organizations. Welcome speech by Paul Martin, Director, Chattanooga National Cemetery. Recognition of Dignitaries by Ronnie Williams. Recognition, Gold Star Mothers & Wives, by Robert Cothran. Introduction of Keynote Speaker by Jim Shull, VVA Chapter 942. Special Speaker Noah Long. God Bless America by Choo Choo Chorus. Benediction by Dr. David McNabb. 21 Gun Salute by CAVC Honor Guard. Taps will be presented by the American Legion Post 95 Legionnaires. Hosting of Colors in the Circle of Honor by the Chattanooga National Cemetery Staff.

Nov. 11, the day set aside by the nation to honor its veterans, didn’t officially become “Veterans Day” until 1954, when President Dwight Eisenhower signed the law changing World War I’s Armistice Day to Veterans Day — a federal holiday recognizing all of America’s veterans.
