Gazaway September employee of the month for Whitfield
Gayle Gazaway puts the focus on professionalism and customer service in her job as Whitfield County Magistrate Court Clerk. For her dedication to her post and to the public, she has been selected Whitfield County’s Employee of the Month for September.
Following is a brief sketch that offers an insight into this 22-year county employee.
Name: Gayle Gazaway
Job: Whitfield County Magistrate Court Clerk
Time with the county: Started August 1987 part time and went full time in March 1988.
Education: Currently enrolled at Dalton State College, completed my associate’s degree.
My role as a county employee: I strive to keep our office running efficiently. I try to make the judicial process a good experience for our public. Our office is sometimes the first experience with the judicial system that John Q. Public encounters and I want that experience to be as smooth and successful as it can be.
What keeps my job interesting: The situations that people find themselves in and want us to rectify.
What gives me a sense of accomplishment on the job: To see my employees smile as they walk in the door each morning. To feel that the public leaves our office with a positive attitude, that their problems have been dealt with in a professional and courteous manner, by my employees and myself.
The most important thing I’ve done on the job: In 1987 I started out as a deputy clerk and, in 1995, I was appointed the clerk of court.
Where I grew up: Dalton.
Family: Husband: Randy Gazaway. Children: Elizabeth Duncan, Isaac Collins and Whitney Tate. Three grandchildren: Cassi Duncan, Caden Walker and Braylen Tate.
After work, I enjoy: Reading, going to college, cooking and just relaxing.
Community activities: All of my free time is spent in studying or taking time for my family.
Favorite sport: Is camping a sport?
Favorite music: Country.
Favorite Whitfield County restaurant: Parker’s.
Favorite Whitfield County event: Any sports event, such as school softball games, football games, etc.
Three people (living or dead) I’d invite to dinner: My momma, Patsy Whitmire, singer Patsy Cline and Jesus.
I’m most proud of: My children.
Pet peeve: People with no manners.
If I’ve learned one thing in life, it’s: Just be yourself.
Who has had the most impact on my life: My children.
Personal goals I have accomplished or would like to accomplish: Raising my children, settling down (if you know me this makes sense, if you don’t just ask), and furthering my education.
If I could have been in any profession of my choosing, I would have been a: Special education teacher.
If I could have two wishes, they would be: My son is blind in one eye and I would get him a new eye. I would take the financial burdens off my children.
You’d be surprised to learn: My own self-worth and esteem challenges me every day. I use laughter to help with that.
Anything else you’d like to say: I have been with the county for 22 years and have made a lot of friends. The county has been good to me. I know that we are all facing a financial crisis, even the county, but I do believe if we just hang on it will get better.

Restaurant report card — Whitfield County
Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants every three months. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit. The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance.

In an effort to improve the cleanliness of local school districts and stretch public funds, Georgia Schools Superintendent Kathy Cox has recommended implementing the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Seal of Approval testing program for carpet cleaning products.

The Family Support Council has named local certified public accountant Gordon C. Morehouse its 2010 Toast of the Town honoree. The celebration will be June 17 at 6 p.m. at The Farm in Rocky Face.
