McFarland Hill Baptist to close doors for outreach project

While canceling church on Sunday might seem like a radical move, that is exactly what Pastor David Eaton of McFarland Hill Baptist will do Oct. 11.

The church is participating in a four-week national Faith in Action campaign, a groundbreaking outreach project that invites Christians not just to go to church but to “be the church.” The highlight of the campaign is Faith in Action Sunday, when McFarland Hill will mobilize church members in a way that allows them to serve their neighbors through various community service projects.

Members will meet at 10 a.m. and then break up into several service teams. Each service team will be assigned a different project. Service projects will include painting neighborhood fences, helping with yard work, visiting nursing homes, washing cars and much more. There is even talk of members handing out free cash in the surrounding community.

“We believe that churches have talked about Christ’s love long enough, it’s time we started showing it again,” said director of outreach Shawn McGill. “And with Pastor David’s direction, our ‘Be the Church’ campaign is doing just that — transforming our congregation into a church family that is motivated to serve our community.”
