The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hamilton Health Care System, kicked off its annual Westcott Associate fundraising drive this week.
Under the leadership of Campaign Chairman Steve Laird, members of the Annual Support Committee who are serving on the special campaign committee include Oliver Cobb, Roger Cheek, Blake Adcock, Brian Henton, Brenda Brantley and Debbie Haney.
The foundation’s Westcott Association provides a strong base of annual support for the foundation from individuals who desire to support the foundation’s mission by pledging $5,000 payable over the next 10 years.
Beyond the tax-deduction benefits, membership benefits include a personalized plaque, speedy recovery gift upon hospital admission, parking privileges on the hospital campus and an invitation to special programs and events offered by Hamilton Medical Center and the Foundation.
The foundation board of trustees’ recently adopted a $6 million capital campaign to support two important expansion projects for Hamilton Medical Center: the Cardiac Care and Medical Intensive Care Services.
These expansion projects will allow Hamilton to provide a new level of effective and professional care for citizens in our community as well as accommodate more dedicated systems to support treatment protocols.
The first phase of the construction project is scheduled to begin this fall with renovating and expanding the Mashburn Cardiac Services Pavilion.
The Cardiac Care Services expansion responds to Hamilton’s patient cardiac procedure volume and to accommodate complex interventional procedures with more advanced technology and dedicated systems to support treatment protocols. The project includes renovating approximately 3,200 square feet to include the addition of a second catheterization lab to be constructed next to the existing catheterization lab on the first floor, moving the electrophysiology lab from the third floor to the first floor and providing additional space for monitoring and treating patients.
Each lab will be upgraded with new state-of-the art angiography equipment.
The second phase of the expansion is scheduled to begin in 2013 replacing and expanding the Bandy-McCutchen Medical Intensive Care Services Pavilion to accommodate the growing number of patients requiring specialized intensive care. This will be Hamilton’s first expansion of the unit since it was developed in 1964.
The redesigned Pavilion will increase the number and size of rooms from 10 to 14 with a minimum of 200 square feet per room, all of them private and arranged around centralized nursing stations for greater efficiency of care. The project includes a new and enlarged patient family waiting area with amenities to enhance comfort. The expansion will allow Hamilton to provide a new level of effective specialized and professional care for citizens in our community.
“Philanthropic support to the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation keeps health care costs down,” Laird said.
“Each contributed dollar provides the financial integrity and strength to support Hamilton’s response to the changing health care environment.
“A gift to the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation to benefit these expansion projects is an investment in the quality of life in our community and every gift takes us one step closer to meeting our $6 million goal.”
