The Dalton Tea Party and the Whitfield County Republican Party will host a candidates forum Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Ryman Hall. The public is invited.
Tea Party coordinator Naomi Swanson said the event will provide an opportunity for candidates on the July 31 primary ballot to introduce themselves to residents.
“The format will be a little bit different because we have so many candidates. They’ll probably get about three minutes each to introduce themselves and their campaigns. If anyone has any questions, we will probably ask a question or two. The exact amount of time will be determined by how many candidates we have,” she said. “We might suggest some topics we’d like them to address.”
Swanson said one issue Tea Party members are particularly interested in is the regional transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) that will be on the ballot on July 31.
Swanson said that all candidates on the ballot, including Democrats, have been invited and many have already confirmed.
“Even if they don’t have any opposition on the ballot, we’d still like for them to come as a courtesy to the voters,” she said.
Swanson said candidates might want to come early, by around 6 p.m., to meet informally with people as they come in before the meeting starts.
