The Dalton Police Department honored its employees of the year for 2012. Officer Steve Zahn was recognized as the agency’s Sworn Employee of the Year and Terry Crider was honored as the agency’s Non-Sworn Employee of the Year. Candidates for the award were nominated by and voted for by agency employees.
Zahn serves as the senior member of the department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit and also teaches the “mini-academy” for new officers. Zahn coordinates the agency’s entry into the Governor’s Challenge, an annual competition designed by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to recognize and reward outstanding achievements in highway safety enforcement and education. In 2012, the Dalton Police Department finished third in the challenge.
Crider is the custodian of the Dalton Police Services Center at 301 Jones St. In addition to keeping the building clean inside and out, Crider has worked tirelessly to keep the facility in good working order. Crider oversaw repairs to the building after a pipe ruptured and flooded the weight room and Support Services Division office suite. He’s widely recognized as one of the hardest working people in the agency.
Both awards were presented at the department’s annual year-end holiday dinner. Also honored were the recipients of the department’s Commander’s Awards, given to an employee by the commander of each agency division. The Patrol Division’s recipient was Officer Matthew Kumnick. The Criminal Investigations Division’s honoree was Detective John Helton. Support Services honored Crider. The Administration Division recognized Public Relations Specialist Bruce Frazier. The department’s Leadership Award was given to Sgt. Jamie Johnson.
